“There is the need to continue to train our staff for enhanced productivity and service delivery, and we will continue to do that by updating their knowledge through regular training.”

These were the words of the Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, while speaking at the opening of a week-long computer training for some select staff.

The training was organised in partnership with Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) and sponsored by the Nigerian Communication Commission.

Ajibefun said the Institution has noticed a marked improvement in the output of staff members who had undergone the training.

In his words, “There has been a noticeable improvement in the output of staff that had been trained in the earlier editions of this programme. Therefore, we will continue to partner with Digital Bridge Institute to sustain the training.”

The week-long training will take the over 100 select staff through a deeper usage of computer programmes like Microsoft Word and Excel.

According to Mrs. Talatu Lawal of DBI, many Nigerians only use the basic aspects of Word and Excel as they lack knowledge of their deeper and more interesting uses.

She said, “We have different professionals from the various units of the university here attending our training. While we are not saying they are ignorant of MS Word and Excel, it is our intention to open their eyes to a deeper understanding and usage of these two popular and widely used computer applications,” she said.
