A writer and his task

Streams

By Banji Ayoola

A writer is passive in his work. He is a receptacle. He receives. He passes on or mediates what he receives in his own words and language in his unique style.

His is to prepare and make himself available for what he may receive, what may be passed or mediated through him. What he, in turn, is to give out, and hand out to certain recipients.

This means he should be at his post inwardly and outwardly, that is where he could be useful, where he could be readily accessed by impressions from beyond the ordinary sources that are being passed through him by helpers high above him in the chain of servants running downwards from the loftiest heights.

The chain through which higher radiations in impressions are passed downward by helpers. This implies that he should be permeable, open, and receptive for impressions, finer radiations to easily stream towards and through him.

He should distance himself from anything likely to choke him, to clog him up, to corrode, harden, or coarsen his receptive faculties.

Also, he should moderate his appetites, such that he is not pulled away by popular appetites or wild desires of the modern day such as sleeping around, the reckless pursuit of and the desire for material wealth, partying, clubbing, smoking, excessive drinking, ties, lust for earthly power, position or office, honor or fame, and all the other popular pastimes that may overburden and divert him.

In fact, naturally, these things repel him; he feels unattracted to such appetites, tastes, desires, or cravings.

You should not be overburdened with excessive intellectual work, which indeed suppresses that which is fine and finer and thus higher; which is hostile to spiritual activity.

Which pulls away your inner being which naturally longs to soar upwards for something higher, enriching and uplifting inwardly, from occupying itself with its longing.

A writer standing in his duty tilts much more towards that which is receptive, feminine, passive, and mediating, towards the vertical beam of the Holy Cross,

How does he open up? How does he prepare himself, make himself readily available for higher impressions, finer radiations to stream towards him and through him? Or how does he make himself attractive to these such that naturally they stream towards and through him?

It is by being active inwardly and outwardly; examining the Holy Word of the Lord preferably daily; deepening yourself honestly diligently into activity in the Vineyard of the Lord; and living out your conviction in deeds.

By tying yourself in your flaming volition, thoughts, and deeds to the Holy Word and Vineyard of the Lord.

May the Lord be with you.
