Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has recommitted his administration to ensuring fire safety by promptly responding to distress calls
He spoke while commissioning three new fire trucks that he believed would strengthen the state’s Fire Service’s emergency response.
He stressed that this initiative marked a significant milestone in his government’s ongoing efforts to bolster fire safety and emergency response capabilities across the state.
His words, “When I assumed office, I was deeply concerned by the deteriorating state of our fire service facilities,”
“The last procurement of fire trucks occurred over fourteen years ago, a situation that was both alarming and unacceptable. I knew immediate and strategic intervention was necessary.
“Today, I am proud to announce that this administration has taken decisive steps to revive the Osun State Fire Service.
“We have procured seven modern fire trucks and one water tanker to significantly boost our emergency response capacity.
“We have supplied essential firefighting equipment, including protective gear, to ensure our brave officers are well-equipped, well-prepared, and adequately protected in the line of duty.”
Adeleke highlighted the importance of training for fire officers to ensure professionalism and efficiency in emergency responses.
He said, “We have prioritized the training of our fire officers so they can respond to emergencies with professionalism and efficiency”.
“The commissioning of these three additional fire trucks underscores the administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.”
The Governor emphasized the necessity for proper management and regular maintenance of these fire trucks to ensure their longevity and reliability.
He said, “I am directing the Hon. Commissioner for Home Affairs and the leadership of the Osun State Fire Service to establish a comprehensive maintenance schedule and accountability framework to ensure that these vital assets continue to serve our people effectively and without interruption”.
He reiterated his earlier promise to ensure equitable distribution of resources across the state.
His words, “It remains my goal to provide at least one fire truck to each of the nine Federal Constituencies in Osun State and one at the Fire Service Headquarters.
“With the commissioning of these three trucks, we are now closer to fulfilling that pledge. Plans are already underway to procure the remaining trucks, ensuring that every region in our state is adequately equipped for emergency response.”
Earlier, the Commissioner for Home Affairs in Osun State, Abdulrosheed Aderigbigbe, noted that no fewer than seven fire tenders have been procured by the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He highlighted that despite economic challenges, the administration has successfully provided fire tenders to four federal constituencies, with plans to equip the remaining constituencies in line with the governor’s vision for comprehensive fire safety coverage.
The Commissioner commended the Governor for his leadership and commitment to the safety and well-being of the citizens, acknowledging the significant strides made in revitalizing the state’s fire service infrastructure.
The commissioning ceremony, held at the Fire Service Headquarters in Abere, Osogbo, was attended by government officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders, all expressing their support for the governor’s initiatives aimed at enhancing public safety in Osun State.
