The political election campaign is the pivot on which political elective offices are canvassed. It is the premier test politicians of all shades and colours will face unveiling their intellectual packages or programmes to be implemented for the people if elected into power. This is supposed to be based purely on viable implementable issues that could smoothen their way to victory and not on deception.
However, some political campaigns are based on campaigns of calumny, rather than issues of public interest. Taking Ondo State as a case study, many opposition parties now see such a strategy as the only way to smuggle themselves into power.
One good reason behind this is that they have nothing to offer the public. The achievements of Orimisan Ayedatiwa is sending shivers down their spines. They know they are not formidable enough to stop the man of the people: His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa, the executive governor of Ondo State. They are threatened by the widespread achievements of Orimisan in less than a year, as being hailed by the good people of the State.
There have been various administrations in Ondo State since its inception. Some wrote their names on marble, while some wrote theirs on dust. This has opened room for comparative assessment, as the impacts made in people’s lives are determinants for such an assessment.
However, the style of practical governance put in place by the present government of Ondo State headed by His Excellency Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has surprisingly incredibly caught my fancy. Why? Because this is an administration that hasn’t been up to a year in office.
As can be attested to, and building on the legacy of his predecessor, Orimisan Ayedatiwa as he is popularly referred to has employed the bottom-up approach in running governmental administration thereby transforming power to the people to determine and prioritise their needs for the government to do their biddings one after the other.
The recorded practical achievements of Governor Orimisan Ayedatiwa are there in the 18 local government areas of the State for anyone to see. Here are some of the achievements of this enigmatic personality:
### Infrastructure and Road Construction
– **Road Construction Initiatives**:
– Flag off construction of rural roads:
– 15.5km Oda Cocoa Board Road – Camp 2 – Langbodo Road in Akure
– Ode-Omi-Ebute Iyara in Irele
– Ifira-Afo in Akoko SE
– 120km length of selected roads being rehabilitated across the state
– Approval for the constitution of 28km Akotogbo-Iju-Osun-FTZ Road and 60km township roads
– **Infrastructure Projects**:
– Approval of N3.47B for Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Projects and Light Up Akure Project
– Flag off construction of the Walkway Jetty at Obe-nla, Ilaje
– Approval for the upgrade of the Akure township stadium
### Education
– **Financial Support**:
– N550M payment for WAEC fees of secondary school students
– **Institutional Development**:
– Approval of N2.2B to UNIMED and OAUSTECH for Senate building and the completion of abandoned projects
### Employment and Job Creation
– **Recruitment**:
– Recruitment of over 2000 health workers and teachers
– Employment letters to 165 ODIRS applicants
– **Entrepreneurship and Skills Training**:
– N30M grant to young entrepreneurs
– Training of 618 young people in tech skills with plans to train 5000 more soon
### Financial Interventions and Loans
– **Loans and Grants**:
– N220M loans to traders, artisans, and SMEs
– Approval of N2B intervention fund on food security
### Social Welfare
– **Salary and Gratuity Payments**:
– Payment of 3 months’ salary arrears to Rugipo workers
– Payment of salary arrears of ex-political office holders after 7 years
– Payment of over N5.7b in gratuity to retirees
– **Support for Vulnerable Groups**:
– Distribution of food items to the vulnerable; grains and tools to farmers
– Deployment of free shuttles to Ondo State pupils
### Legal and Security
– **Judicial and Security Enhancements**:
– Signing of the Judiciary Act into law for the increment of judges in Ondo State
– Approval for the building of a judicial complex for the state judiciary
– Distribution of operational vehicles to security agencies in Ondo State
### Economic Development
– **Revenue Generation Projects**:
– Commissioning of the Sunshine House in Lagos to boost the revenue of Ondo State
With all these life-enhancing packages in Ondo State, we no doubt need a continuous practical administration to flourish unabated in the State.
From all indications, I am supremely confident to state here without any iota of doubt that the governorship race in this State come November 16th, this year 2024, is concluded in favour of the man of the people- Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa. He is a good road to be plied again and again if circumstances permit.
I want to state too that he is going to be remembered as one of the best governors who walked the surface of the state.
