The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State on Sunday named one of its chieftains, Mr. Olalekan Bada, as its consensus candidate for the coming bye-election into the vacant Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency’s seat in the House of Representatives.
A statement by the party’s state spokesman, Mr. Kennedy Ikantu Peretei, said that this followed the unanimous approval by the party’s State Working Committee of the recommendation of a 20-man committee set up at the constituency to nominate a consensus candidate for the forthcoming bye-election.
According to the statement: “The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Working Committee has unanimously approved the 20-man committee set up at Akoko North East/ Akoko North West Federal Constituency to nominate a consensus candidate for the forthcoming bye-election.
“At a joint meeting of the SWC and six of the aspirants who earlier indicated interest to participate in the bye-election, it was resolved that the 20-man committee report which rated Olalekan Bada as number one should be sponsored by the party for the bye-election that comes up in February 2023.
“Our party believes that we should profit from our own experience in which the nomination process to replace Hon Omolafe Adedayo (aka Expensive) ended in a rancorous primary election that badly fragmented our party in Akure North/ Akure South.”
It urged party leaders in Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency to rally support for the party’s candidate and ensure the party becomes victorious in the bye-election.
