Osun State correspondent of The Nation newspaper, Mr Toba Adedeji has been shot.
He was reportedly shot together with a teenager at Olaiya, in Osogbo, the state capital by policemen while covering the protest of a mourning crowd.
The policemen were trying to disperse the crowd of protesters protesting the killing of Mr Abiola Afolabi who was reportedly killed by policemen in April 4, 2022.
The crowd had converged on Olaiya street to mourn Afolabi’s passage when policemen reportedly opened fire on the crowd to disperse them. In the process, Adedeji was shot.
The protesters, mostly youths, gathered under Olaiya flyover, protesting alleged killing of their colleague by policemen after burying the body on Ilesa.
While covering the protest under the bridge, a team of policemen reportedly arrived the scene and started firing tear gas, while some were shooting live bullets at the protesters.
In the process, Toba was shot on the thigh, while another person, a student, was also hit.
Toba is currently being treated at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.
Meanwhile, Afolabi was buried on Tuesday and his friends held a rally to mourn him.
