Against the backdrop of a report on Thursday by military authorities that Boko Haram insurgents are surrendering in the Northeast in large numbers, owing to reported relentless onslaught on them by the security agencies, President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to do whatever it takes to ensure that he does not leave the country in security crisis by the time his term of office ends.
He made the promise during the National Security on Council meeting, which he presided over at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, according to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Major Gen Babagana Monguno (Rtd).
While relating the President’s charge to reporters after the meeting, the NSA said the President also expressed his readiness to make more changes in the security architecture if necessary.
He said the President told the meeting that he will continue to make changes if he is not satisfied; adding that all the issues brought before the President centred mainly on the successes recorded in the operations in the Northeast.
Monguno said that large numbers of Boko Haram fighters are surrendering in the Northeast, noting: “never had such large numbers leave the terrorist camp, owing to the relentless activity of the security agencies.”
He said that that there are good cooperation, synergy and intelligence-sharing among the Armed Forces, noting that President Buhari was happy with the briefs he received.
