Ondo assembly moves to impeach deputy governor

Ondo State House of Assembly today Wednesday July 7, served the Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi, an impeachment notice.

The deputy governor, who decamped to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, two weeks ago in pursuit of his governorship ambition, was accused of gross misconduct.

He is one of the nine aspirants warming up to contest for the party’s ticket in the coming primary of that party ahead of the October 10 governorship election.

His boss, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, is also seeking reelection as one of the many aspirants also of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

He resigned from the the ruling APC and defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party but insisted on remaining in office.

Since his defection, there have been numerous calls on him to resign voluntarily since he and his boss have parted ways politically.

It was gathered that 14 of the 26 lawmakers supported the impeachment moves.

There were however heavy security presence at the Ondo State House as the lawmakers were holding plenary.

The lawmakers had resumed from recess on June 6 and placed an advertorial calling on members to resume sitting.

To however stall any impeachment move, Ajayi rushed to an Abuja High Court where he filed a suit seeking to stop the impeachment proceeding and enforced his fundamental right of association.

Other defendants in the suit were the Inspector General of Police, State Commissioner Of Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr David Oleyeloogun.
