Ondo State Government has started recruitment of personnel into the local security outfit Security Network Agency, otherwise called Amotekun Corps.
This was confirmed in Akure the state capital by the Amotekun Corps Commander, Chief Adetunji Olu-Adeleye, who said the recruitment started following the approval of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN.
The security outfit, spontaneously conceptualised and concretised by the governments of the six South western states, is meant to strengthen security in the region against the backdrop of series of bloody attacks and killings of innocent indigenes of the region by armed bandits.
The incessant attacks on innocent people of the region characterised by destruction of their farmlands and rape of women among other brutalities by armed gangs who seemingly had free hands, climaxed with the gruesome murder of Mrs Funke Olakunrin, a daughter of Afenifere National Leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti.
Adeleye said that indigenes and residents of the state who are certified to be fit would be recruited into the security outfit across the 18 local government areas of the state.
He advised interested applicants to download the application and guarantor’s form online, saying applicants between the ages of 18 and 70 years with First School Leaving Certificate to Doctorate Degree level would be considered in the exercise.
The recruitment, he said, would be in phases as he warned against the sales of the forms under whatever condition.
His words: “The forms should not be abused and not be sold on any condition. The first page of the form talks about personal bio-data, the second page talks about the referee and qualifications, and the third page talks about guarantor’s section.
The guarantor must be the applicant’s Village Head, and Chairman of Local Government Council of Obas which they must sign”
The application and guarantor’s form is available on www.ondoamotekun.org.ng. The eligible and interested men and women who reside in Ondo State may apply and fill the form appropriately”.
He said the forms must be submitted in person before June 22, 2020 as he warned applicants against giving false information
He urged each applicant to secure the endorsement of his Village Head and the Chairman of their Local Government Area before submitting the forms.
“If you want to join, go and apply at your local government. Every applicant must be well known at the local government,”
Special Assistant to Governor Akeredolu on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo, had earlier maintained that people who understand the terrain would be recruited.
According to him: “We believe that those people know the terrain so well that there is no need to ignore them and bring people that will start to learn the ropes.
Our terrains in Ondo are peculiar, so we prefer people who are already very familiar with them and our people in local communities.
All we need do is to employ them, train and empower them to do the work officially”
