Akeredolu employs AAUA’s best graduate

Mr. Daniel Oluwatobi Ajakaye, the overall best graduating student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, has been offered an immediate employment by Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN,.

He graduated with a CGPA of 4.76 from the Accounting department, Faculty of Social And Management Sciences of the University.

This was contained in a statement by a Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr Olabode Richard Olatunde.

The Governor, who announced this while delivering his address on the occasion of the institution’s ninth Convocation ceremony on Friday, said that Ajakaye deserves to work in the institution to enable him contribute his knowledge to the growth of the school.

Noting that the state manages three Universities and a Polytechnic, he assures that his administration would continue to make necessary efforts to sustain the tempo of development in all the state-owned citadels of learning.

He said despite stiff competing demands, his administration has ensured prompt release of subventions in order not to jeopardise the delicate balance of running a modern university.

He also disclosed that his administration has done its best to grow the physical infrastructure in all the state-owned institutions.

He said: ”As part of our administration’s understanding of the running of a 21st century-compliant university, we have continued to give the management of all state-institutions the free hand needed to run their affairs.

“Plans are on to ensure that we leverage the research efforts of academics across our institutions while also not failing to tap from their wealth of experience and research when occasions demand.

“Our educational policy thrust is clear, to make our institutions of higher learning independent and well-funded with a view of making tools of positive changes in the society.”

He noted that with the 20th year of the existence of the university, it has continued to do exceptionally well nationally and globally despite its young age.

“Within such a relatively young age, the university has consistently emerged as the Best State-owned University in Nigeria, and it is currently ranked the ninth best out of the about 160 universities in the country,” the Governor said.

Akeredolu described the university as a pride of the state in terms of quality products, researches, competent staff, infrastructure and other academic exploits.

He noted that it was on record that products of the university have consistently performed admirably well in national and international examinations, just as staff members have won laurels in research and knowledge sharing.

He said that within a relatively young age of 20, the University has consistently emerged as the Best State University in Nigeria, and it is currently ranked the ninth best out of about 160 Universities in the country.

A total of 3, 804 students graduated from the various Faculties and Departments of the institution with 20 of them having First Class, 933 earning Second Class (Upper Division), 2, 007 Second Class (Lower Division),  while 623 and 28 are in Third Class and Pass categories respectively.

Also,  Akeredolu named the Senate Building of the institution after the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, noting that the  immense contributions of the former governor to the development of the University has projected it to the outside world.

Akeredolu while delivering his convocation address reiterated his administration’s readiness to the funding of all the higher institutions in the state so that they could measure up to their peers across the globe,  just as he called on well meaning individuals to support the funding of university education in the country.

He equally advocated for self sustainability as a  way to effectively run the University system in the country, just as he congratulated the management of the citadel of learning, parents, guardians and the Akungba people for seeing the graduands through the rough journey to success.

Earlier, the pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University, Dr Tunji Abayomi and the Vice Chancellor of the institution,  Prof Igbekele Ajibefun lauded the state government’s commitment to the funding of the school which is adjudged the best state owned University in Nigeria.
