Waiting for the water to be troubled…

How I wonder how many people are on the queue now, waiting for what I don’t know.

I marvel when I see some people at some gatherings, some of them afflicted with diverse diseases. Some are suffering from blindness, lame people, leprous folks and many more.

Oh!, how it pains me to know that some of them have spent thirty eight years waiting for spectacular miracle to occur. Pardon my curiosity, can you pause a while and think along with me?

Could it be that we, like these ones, have been waiting for a certain pool to be troubled before we can become that person we are created to be? And could it by chance be that we are mentally, emotionally blind and leprous?

Here is what I mean. John 5:2 & 3, “Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water”. I have been reading this portion of the Scripture for years, but today, my inner man went wild.

Looking at it from the point of view of mental blindness; when someone is mentally blind, there is nothing any one can do to make him or her see the opportunity knocking at his or her door. He or She will still sit and wait endlessly for someone to come and help him or her up from his or her seating point.

This place where they are is a 1) MARKET! 2) THERE IS A POOL! 3) BETHESDA means MERCY LAND! I am thinking aloud here.

In the market place, there are lots of things to sell and make money, so that one can come out of that idleness of sitting somewhere complaining.

To sit and complain is a big disease, to wait for someone or money to drop from nowhere is foolishness, it is tantamount to waiting for a miracle to happen without applying faith and work. At these gatherings, I see folks with same FATE, ignorance!

Not reading the scriptures, and some reading but not applying or putting them into practice is gross ignorance.

The Bible makes me to understand that faith comes from hearing, and hearing the Word of God, and the Word of God I hear, shall set me free from physical, emotional and spiritual blindness, the Word of God will set me free from leprosy of idleness, lack of skill, sleepiness and talkativeness!

One becomes lame and grumpy when one has sat at a place for a long time without exercising the legs.

One becomes a Psychological case when he or she is always waiting to be given everything. That is called, over dependent individual.

Today, this topic reminds me of a market in Lagos (Mile 12 Market, Ketu). Here at this market during the rainy reason like now, you could see a lot of people who had left their homes very early in the morning, they would stand at the corners of the market, their job is to wash the feet of those who swam in the deep messy mud in the market. Some rent out rain boots. These ones are like the five wise virgins in Mathew 25. They see opportunity in every situation and need no one to give them small kerosene for their lamps.

When one is physically blind, one depends only on one’s five senses to guide one: sight, touch, taste, feel and smell.

Emotional blindness keeps one foolish, this does not allow one to pull beyond one\’s present circumstances but renders one dependent. It is hard for someone with this disease to break away from ungodly ties. Spiritual blindness will not allow one to recognise when one is at the Mercy ground.

Back to where I began, John 5:7-8. “The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the pool is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. Jesus said unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk”.

Oh! How I wonder how many times we have sat at a place in such gatherings, waiting for the hand of man to touch our forehead before we can be healed. How many occasions we failed to realise that Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God is around our corner with healing in His Wings. How many times we have missed applying the Balm of Gilead.

What keeps one at a place waiting for the water to be troubled is sin of the flesh, sin of commission and omission. Remember that the man did not know it was Jesus that healed him until Jesus saw him in the temple and reminded him not to go back to the sin that once held him bound.

We have to know who we follow, The Son of Man or the man. Who touches you and your diseases (sins) will disappear.

Tell Jesus now to please hold you up so that you don’t slip and fall again, for another fall after you have been cleansed will be worse than the first. 38 years is a long period, but the second fall will be far more.

Repent and live…
