Afenifere chieftain and former commissioner for Information in Ondo State, Chief Femi Aluko has described the departed Leader of the pan-Yoruba sociocultural organisation, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti as a rare blessing to Nigeria.

According to him, Nigeria should learn to be honest and satisfied like Fasoranti, who he described as a teacher of teachers, who was untainted till death.

He said that the elder statesman’s rare qualities impressed the departed Governor Michael Adekunle Ajasin so much that he picked him unhesitatingly as his commissioner for Finance under whom the old Ondo State recorded landmark achievements in industrialisation and economic development.

According to Aluko, “Baba Fasoranti was an international figure, a man of repute worthy of praising and following.

“He was a man of destiny and integrity who led Afenifere for over 30 years before he stepped aside for Chief Aderibigbe Adesanya.

He was a man of timber and caliber. He successfully headed the Itaognolu Grammar School for 15 years before he was transferred to St Andrews College, Oyo, and thereafter to Christ School Ado Ekiti before retiring in 1978.”

Aluko said that despite the misfortunes he experienced having successively lost his wife; first child, Mrs Funke Iwajomo; and another daughter, Mrs Funke Olakunori, Fasoranti never wavered in his struggles to contribute meaningfully to building a better Nigeria.

He said that the departed elder statesman shouldered the responsibilities of Afenifere till he breathed his last.
