The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has summoned four officers implicated in a viral video showing the alleged assault of a young man in Sango-Ota to the state command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
The development followed public outrage over footage circulating on social media, which showed police personnel pinning the young man to the ground before handcuffing him.
The incident reportedly occurred in Ijagba, Sango-Ota, with viewers questioning the officers’ conduct and the level of force used during the arrest.
A voice heard in the video alleged that the young man was arrested for wearing camouflage shorts, raising further concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to him, the officers involved had been identified, while the commissioner had directed that immediate action be taken in accordance with established procedures.
“The officers involved have been identified, and the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, has ordered immediate action in line with established procedures,” the statement read.
Babaseyi said the four officers were being taken to the command headquarters for further action, adding that the police would provide updates as the situation developed.
“The command remains committed to accountability, professional discipline and the highest standards of policing,” he stated.
He added, “The four officers are already on their way to the headquarters. Further updates will be communicated as developments warrant.”
The police command’s response comes amid public calls for accountability over alleged misconduct by security personnel, particularly incidents involving the use of force during arrests.
