Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction of 20 members of the National Youth Service Corps in Imo State, following a joint security operation involving the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force.

The arrests came days after the abducted corps members regained their freedom following a period in captivity.

The victims were reportedly kidnapped while travelling through Imo State, prompting security agencies to launch a search-and-rescue operation to secure their release and track down those responsible.

According to a report by TVC, the suspects were apprehended during a coordinated operation by security operatives.

A security source described the arrests as a major relief, noting that security agencies had sustained a manhunt for the suspected abductors.

“This is a huge sigh of relief. Security agencies have been on a manhunt for the abductors, and we are elated that they have been captured,” the source said.

The source expressed hope that the suspects would face prosecution, adding that the arrests could help ensure justice for the victims.

“We strongly believe they will be charged to court by DSS and the corps members will get justice,” the source added.

The arrests represent a development in efforts to track down those responsible for the abduction, although details of the suspects’ identities and the specific roles they allegedly played were not immediately available.

As of the time of filing this report, the security agencies had yet to publicly disclose further details about the arrests or indicate when the suspects would be arraigned.
