A man has reportedly killed his wife and subsequently died by suicide after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident, which has left their four children without both parents, reportedly occurred on Owiri Street in the community.
According to a source familiar with the incident, the man was allegedly angered by claims of his wife’s infidelity and the sale of his landed property, leading to a violent confrontation between the couple.
A neighbour told Vanguard that the couple had reportedly been involved in repeated physical altercations before the tragic incident.
The deceased man’s elder brother expressed sadness over the development, saying he was not fully aware of what triggered the confrontation.
He, however, noted that disagreements could arise from different circumstances within families. He disclosed that the couple had four children, with their eldest son said to be about 21 years old.
The relative declined to disclose the names of the deceased couple.
A senior police officer at the Agbarho Police Division, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident and said officers had evacuated the bodies to a morgue for further investigation.
The officer added that no formal complaint had been lodged by either family as of the time of the report.
