The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that about 103 million Nigerians are registered to vote in the 2027 general elections.
The commission said the figure further strengthens Nigeria’s position as the largest democracy in Africa by population of registered voters.
The INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Tuesday at the commission’s World Press Conference in Abuja as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
Amupitan also provided a breakdown of voter registration across the states, with Lagos recording the highest number of registered voters.
According to the figures released by the commission, Lagos has 7,488,633 registered voters, followed by Kano State with 6,000,570.
Kaduna State ranks third with 4,000,640 registered voters, while Katsina occupies fourth position with 3,876,051.
At the lower end of the table, Ekiti State has 1,055,708 registered voters, while Bayelsa has 1,000,200.
The Federal Capital Territory has 1,000,732 registered voters, placing it above Yobe State, which has 1,733,641, and Gombe State, with 1,768,566 registered voters.
The commission said the figures formed part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, which are expected to feature presidential, National Assembly and other elective contests.
With more than 100 million registered voters, the 2027 elections are expected to be a major test of Nigeria’s electoral process and the commission’s preparations for the poll.
