How should we pray?

Newly Published Book

By Banji Ayoola

It is good to seek help which abounds only in the Power of the Almighty Father.

To go before Him individually or jointly and humbly ask for His help, for His guidance out of difficulties and hard times; and also to thank Him for His Goodness.

To approach Him humbly whether in distress, suffering, pain or joy, or whenever we are in need.

His Table is always richly laid, and in great abundance.

However, prayer goes beyond this.

We pray when we give of ourselves in deeds that bless others.

When we think, say and do only the good to our neighbours far and near, without being indulgent.

When we do only those things which honour and glorify the Lord in accordance with His Laws governing Creation.

We pray when we help the needy and poor.; when we strive to ease the pain of our neighbours experiencing the hard times; even with only kind and soothing words, with a mere hello or visit.

We pray when we feed the hungry and assuage the thirst of the thirsty, and spread joy around us.

Do only those things that will contribute to the welfare of our neighbours and uplift them;

Give our whole being in the service of our fellow men without expecting anything in return;

And use the blessing we receive during the joint Hour of Worship to give of ourselves;

In love to our neighbours throughout the week, starting from the point we step out of the Hall of Worship.
