The Bauchi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a former All Progressives Congress Women Leader in Bauchi South, Jemimah Dutse.

Dutse was reportedly found dead in a pool of blood inside her residence in Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, Bauchi, with her throat allegedly slit by unidentified assailants.

The incident was disclosed on Sunday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu.

Habib said the police received a report on October 3, 2026, from a 49-year-old resident of the area, who alerted the authorities after the deceased was discovered inside her home.

He said, “On 3rd October, 2026, at about 1407hrs, a 49-year-old man of Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, reported at ‘E’ Division that the lifeless body of the deceased was discovered in a pool of blood inside her residence at Muazu New Layout, Yelwa, with her throat slit by yet-to-be-identified assailant(s).”

Following the report, detectives attached to the division visited the scene, documented evidence and evacuated the body to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical examination and autopsy.

The police commissioner subsequently ordered the case to be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a detailed investigation.

According to Habib, the investigation is aimed at determining the circumstances surrounding Dutse’s death and identifying those responsible.

He said, “The investigation is with a view to unraveling the circumstances surrounding her murder and bringing perpetrators to justice.”

The command expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and political associates, assuring them that efforts were underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The command commiserates with the family, friends, and political associates of the deceased and assures the public that no stone will be left unturned to ensure justice is served,” Habib added.

The police said further information would be made public as the investigation progresses.

The latest incident comes months after an APC chieftain in Zamfara State, Umar Moriki, was reportedly killed by suspected bandits along the Gusau-Tsafe highway in November 2025.

Moriki was said to have been travelling from Gusau to Kaduna when he was attacked near Fegi village in Tsafe Local Government Area.
