Osun State House of Assembly has commended the steady growth and development of Osun State College of Health Technology (OSCO-HEALTH), Ilesa, under the leadership of its Provost, Dr Lateef Olarewaju Raheem.
The commendation was made during a quarterly meeting between the House Committee on Education and the management of the college to review its activities and assess its progress.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of the committee, Hon. Sikiru Akinloye Bajepade, praised the Provost for his efforts towards improving infrastructure and driving the development of the institution.
Bajepade particularly highlighted the upgrading of laboratory facilities at the college, describing the development as commendable, especially given the importance of standard laboratory facilities to accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
He also commended Raheem for effectively mobilising the management, academic and non-academic staff of the institution towards achieving improved performance and taking the college to greater heights.
The Vice Chairman of the committee, Hon. Abiola Jeremiah Awoyeye, said he was impressed by the steady increase in student enrolment at the college, describing it as an indication of the institution’s growing capacity to produce qualified health professionals.
Awoyeye also commended the college’s efforts at improving its internally generated revenue, noting that its performance in the area had surpassed previous achievements.
Earlier, the Provost, Dr Lateef Olarewaju Raheem, thanked the House of Assembly for its continued support, which he said had contributed significantly to the successes recorded by the institution.
Raheem, however, appealed for additional support from the Assembly, particularly towards the proposed upgrade of the college to a polytechnic.
According to him, the upgrade would enable the institution to attract funding from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), while also expanding student enrolment through the introduction of additional academic programmes.
Members of the college’s delegation to the meeting included the Deputy Provost, Mrs Margaret Oparinde; Deputy Registrar, Mr O.O. Ojolo; Bursar, Mr Yinka Olaleye; Director of Works, Engr. Olalekan Imran; Librarian, Mrs Oluwakemi Ibitoye; Director, School of Environmental Health Technology, Mr Sunday Adebayo; Director of Medical Services, Mrs Funmiso Oyehan; and Public Relations Officer, Mr Kingsley Omoyeni.
