Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa
Amid the ongoing protest by the Ministry workers and unions over the concession of King’s College, Lagos, and the closure of some Federal Unity Schools, the Federal Government has declared that the 35-year concession does not amount to the sale of the prestigious high school.
Education Minister, Dr Tunji Alausa stated this while briefing journalists in Abuja
According to him, the Federal Government has no plan to sell the school rather it had a concession with the management of King’s College, Lagos, to the Old Boys Association (KCOBA) through a public-private partnership (PPP) to generate funds for school infrastructure renovation or development.
He said the government had engaged with the unions and reached a five-point agreement aimed at resolving the dispute and getting workers back to their offices.
The agreements reached include Immediate Suspension of The Industrial Action, No staff would be victimised for participating in the Industrial Action and Two weeks pause on Take-off of the implementation of Takeover of King’s college by The Old Students .
Others are, Redeployment of Policemen From King’s college Premises and Setting up of 7-man committee on Negotiation to x-ray FG’s king’s college agreement with old Students.
Also, the Minister of State for Education, Prof Suwaiba Ahmad, said the Federal Government was willing to meet with the unions over the ongoing dispute but insisted that normalcy must first return to the ministry.
Prof. Suwaiba Urged aggrieved staff and Unions to embrace peace and support the leadership of the Ministry towards the development of the Schools involved.
