- hails monarch’s commitment to culture, peace, development

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, has congratulated the Olowu of Kuta, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adekunle Oyelude Makama, Tegbosun III, on the occasion of his 14th coronation anniversary.
The Union described the monarch’s 14 years on the throne as a significant milestone, marked by dedicated service to the people of Kuta Kingdom and sustained efforts towards the preservation of Yoruba culture and tradition.
In a congratulatory statement signed by the Chairman of the Osun NUJ, Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin, and the Secretary, Comrade Olalekan Akindoju, the Union said Oba Makama had demonstrated exemplary leadership since ascending the throne.
According to the Union, the monarch’s reign has been characterised by his commitment to peace, unity, development and the advancement of the traditional institution, not only within Kuta Kingdom but also across Osun State.
The NUJ noted that Oba Makama had distinguished himself as a traditional ruler whose influence and contributions extended beyond the confines of his palace, particularly through his interventions on matters of national development, good governance, peaceful coexistence and community advancement.
The Union said the Olowu has continued to use his position and experience to promote constructive dialogue and encourage initiatives capable of contributing to the development of society.
The Osun NUJ also commended the monarch for maintaining a cordial relationship with the media and supporting journalists and the principles of responsible journalism.
It noted that Oba Makama has consistently demonstrated an understanding of the important role of the media in strengthening society, promoting accountability and providing citizens with credible information.
According to the Union, the Olowu’s relationship with journalists has gone beyond mere patronage, as he has consistently engaged the media on issues of public interest and contributed meaningfully to public discourse.
The NUJ recalled that, in recognition of the monarch’s contributions to journalism and society, the Osun State Council had inducted Oba Makama into its Hall of Fame and also honoured him as a Life Patron of the Council.
The Union said the honours reflects the longstanding relationship between the monarch and the journalism profession, as well as his support for the welfare, growth and advancement of journalists in the state.
The council described the 14th anniversary as an opportunity to celebrate not only the monarch’s years on the throne but also his contributions to the preservation of the cultural heritage and traditional values of the Yoruba people.
It commended the Olowu for providing leadership that, according to the Union, had helped to strengthen the bond between the traditional institution, the media and the wider society.
The NUJ prayed for long life, sound health, wisdom and continued grace for Oba Makama to enable him to provide purposeful leadership to the people of Kuta Kingdom.
The Union also wished the people of Kuta Kingdom continued peace, unity, prosperity and development under the leadership of the monarch.
The Osun NUJ further reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining its cordial relationship with the traditional institution and pledged continued partnership with the Olowu of Kuta in initiatives aimed at promoting peace, development, cultural preservation and responsible journalism in Osun State.
The Union expressed confidence that the monarch will continue to deploy his position and experience towards the advancement of Kuta Kingdom and the broader interests of the state and the nation.
