- begins schools monitoring statewide
Ondo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Igbekele Ajibefun, has charged secondary school students statewide to imbibe discipline, hard work, dedication and determination as a the new academic session begins.
He stressed that the right attitude to learning remains a major pathway to academic excellence and a successful future.
The commissioner gave the charge on Monday during his monitoring visit to Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, his first point of call in the ongoing monitoring of schools statewide.
According to him, the monitoring exercise aims at assessing the attitude of students and teachers, identifying challenges within the school system and ensuring that the state’s education sector continues to improve.
His words: “We are here monitoring our schools across Ondo State to see that our students put on the right attitude and to see that our education system gets better.”
He urged the students to take their studies seriously, remain focused and avoid every act capable of distracting them from achieving their educational goals.
The Commissioner warned that the government would not tolerate truancy or any form of indiscipline among students,.
He warned that students found roaming around during class hours would be arrested, and their parents would answer questions before such students could be released, stressing that discipline is essential for building responsible future leaders.
Ajibefun also disclosed that the Ministry had introduced electronic payment systems in schools as part of measures to curb sharp practices and promote transparency in schools’ administration.
He said the initiative would help strengthen accountability and ensure that financial transactions within the education system are properly monitored.
He explained that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s “OUR EASE” Agenda was designed to make life better for the people of the state, irrespective of their social or economic status.
The commissioner noted that the education sector remains a critical component of the administration’s development agenda and would continue to receive the attention required to deliver quality education.
Also speaking during the occasion, the Vicar of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Oyemekun, Ven. Jide Olasende, admonished the students to put God first in all their endeavours.
While praying for them, he encouraged them to trust God and allow Him to guide their decisions, noting that life’s challenges in academics, family and other areas could be successfully overcome with God.
In his words: “Set God before yourself all the time so that you cannot be moved. Challenges are there in life, academics, parenting and all others, but with God you will scale through. If you know God, He will direct you well and good.”
He urged the students to make godliness, wisdom and good character the foundation of their academic pursuits.
In his motivation and charge, the Principal of Oyemekun Grammar School, Akoni Oluyide Adeniyi, thanked God for the successful commencement of the new academic session and prayed for special grace for the students to excel in their academics and fulfil the good purposes God has ordained for their lives.
He reminded the students that Oyemekun Grammar School is built on the enduring values of hard work, dedication, discipline and resilience, describing these qualities as the spirit of success which God has bestowed upon the school.
He urged the students to protect the good name of the institution by shunning every form of indiscipline, warning that students found wanting would face appropriate disciplinary measures, including possible expulsion.
Adeniyi called for stronger parental involvement in the upbringing and education of their children.
Besides, he encouraged parents to cultivate in their children the habits of reading, hard work, discipline and responsibility from an early age, stressing that the foundation laid during their formative years would go a long way in determining their success in life.
He expressed confidence that with the combined efforts of the government, school authorities, parents and students, Oyemekun Grammar School would continue to produce students who would make the school, Ondo State and Nigeria proud.
