The Primary Health Centre (PHC), Oke Gada, Ede, Osun State, has recorded a major milestone with the successful performance of its first emergency Caesarean Section (CS), resulting in the safe delivery of a 3.5-kilogramme baby boy.
The emergency surgical procedure, performed on Friday, August 28, 2026, became necessary after complications arose that made vaginal delivery unsafe for the mother, Mrs. Adeniyi Rukayat.
The baby was delivered at about 2:30 p.m., with both mother and child reportedly in good condition following the operation.
Mrs. Rukayat, who commenced antenatal care at the facility in May 2026, had been managed throughout her pregnancy at the PHC, where healthcare providers had initially anticipated a safe vaginal delivery.
However, when the need for an emergency Caesarean Section arose, the medical team successfully performed the procedure, demonstrating the growing capacity of the facility to provide emergency maternal healthcare services.
The operation was carried out by Dr. Ashafa Musa and his team, who were commended for their professionalism, dedication and commitment to ensuring the safety of the mother and her newborn.
Speaking after the delivery, the father of the newborn, Mr. Adeniyi Kehinde, expressed appreciation to Dr. Musa and members of his team for their diligence and professionalism.
He also commended the Osun State Government, under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke, for its investment in the healthcare sector, particularly the upgrading and strengthening of Primary Health Centres across the state.
Mr. Adeniyi said the successful operation had brought considerable relief to his family, noting that the procedure could have cost hundreds of thousands of naira if undertaken at a private hospital.
He expressed gratitude that his wife was able to receive the emergency service at the PHC free of charge.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Sina Igbalaye, visited the facility following the successful operation and commended the medical team and other health workers for their dedication to duty.
Dr. Igbalaye attributed the development to the state government’s sustained investment in primary healthcare and expressed appreciation to Governor Adeleke for his continued support for the sector.
He specifically highlighted the recent recruitment of health workers as well as the upgrading and strengthening of PHCs across the state, saying the measures were designed to bring quality healthcare services closer to residents.
According to him, the successful emergency Caesarean Section at PHC Oke Gada, Ede, was a clear demonstration that the government’s investment in primary healthcare was yielding tangible results.
He said the development would improve access to emergency maternal healthcare and reduce the need for residents to travel long distances in search of critical medical services.
Dr. Igbalaye reiterated the commitment of the Osun State Primary Health Care Development Board to sustaining quality healthcare delivery across the state.
He said the Board would continue to strengthen primary healthcare facilities and ensure that residents, particularly women and children, have access to affordable, effective and timely healthcare services within their communities.
