- Oyewumi urges unity for development

The people of Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State have held a thanksgiving celebration to appreciate God for the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke and the victory recorded at the polls.
The celebration brought together political leaders, community stakeholders, youths, women, party supporters and residents, who gathered to express gratitude for the outcome of the governorship election and commend those who contributed to the electoral process.
Speaking at the event, the Omo Apesin of Ikireland and Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Kamorudeen Oyewumi, thanked God for what he described as a successful electoral victory.
Oyewumi also expressed appreciation to the people of Ikire for their support, confidence and commitment before, during and after the election, saying the outcome reflected the confidence reposed in the leadership of Governor Adeleke.
According to him, the victory should be seen not merely as a political triumph but as a renewed opportunity to pursue good governance and development across Osun State.
The senator, however, called on residents to move beyond the political contest and unite for the development of Ikireland.
He said the election had ended, stressing that political differences should no longer be allowed to divide the people or undermine the longstanding relationships within the community.
“The election has come and gone. What matters now is the future of Ikireland. We must come together as one people, regardless of political differences, and work collectively for the progress, peace and development of our land.”
Oyewumi urged supporters of the various political parties to embrace one another, shun bitterness and rancour, and concentrate on issues capable of improving the welfare and living conditions of the people.
He maintained that politics should not be allowed to destroy the bonds of brotherhood and unity that have existed among the people of Ikire over the years.
The senator called on political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women, professionals, business owners and other residents to join hands in building a peaceful and prosperous community.
He also commended the people of Ikire for their resilience and peaceful disposition throughout the electoral period, urging them to sustain the spirit of peaceful democratic participation.
Oyewumi further reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Ikireland, assuring residents that their interests, welfare and aspirations would remain central to his representation.
The gathering ended with prayers of thanksgiving, as participants prayed for continued peace, unity and development in Ikire and Osun State.
The event also reinforced calls for political healing, with the organisers urging residents to regard the conclusion of the election as an opportunity to close ranks and work together for the collective interest of the community.
