Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has advised Afrobeats music megastar David Adeleke popularly called Davido to prepare to hire his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke as one of his dancers after his purported defeat in the forthcoming governorship election.
He said, “Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band, because judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election.”
These were contained in his response after the singer appealed to politicians to allow a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Osun State.
Davido, who heads the youth campaign mobilisation team for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, had raised concerns over reports that an unnamed politician from Imo State was planning to interfere in the August 15 election.
Davido, who heads the youth mobilisation team for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign, had on Wednesday appealed to an unnamed politician from Imo State to allow the people of Osun to freely determine their next governor without external interference.
Speaking before thousands of supporters at the rally, the award-winning musician urged all stakeholders to embrace peace and allow democracy to prevail, saying the people alone should determine the outcome of the election through their votes.
At Wednesday’s campaign rally, Davido urged political actors and supporters to reject violence and ensure that the election remains peaceful.
Describing Governor Adeleke as “one of the best, if not the best governor to have ruled Osun State,” the singer said the administration had tangible projects, integrity and diligence to justify its request for another mandate.
“We’re all here for one reason. It’s for the Executive Governor of Osun State, the only Chief Security Officer of Osun State. One of the best, if not the best, governor to ever have ruled this state. We have our projects to show for it. We have our integrity to show for it, and
The singer, while addressing supporters, alleged that the politician intended to turn the election into a political battleground to prove a point.
Davido urged the unnamed politician to promote peace and allow the people of Osun State to freely elect their preferred candidate.
Although Davido did not mention anyone by name, Governor Uzodimma said the remarks were directed at him.
In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma maintained that Davido’s appeal should be directed to the electorate rather than to him, insisting that it is the people of Osun who would ultimately decide the winner of the governorship election.
“It is rather pedestrian for Davido to direct such an appeal to the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum simply because his wife is from Imo State. Instead, his appeal should be directed to the people of Osun State, who will ultimately decide the election’s outcome through their votes,” the statement read.
The Imo governor reiterated his commitment to peaceful, free and credible elections, adding that the APC remained focused on campaigning for its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).
Uzodimma also expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious, claiming that many residents of Osun State were dissatisfied with the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke and were ready to vote for a new government.
“The reality is that Governor Ademola Adeleke has, in the opinion of many, failed woefully in the discharge of his responsibilities. This is why many Osun voters are determined to vote him out in the August 15, 2026 governorship election,” he stated.
In a sharp remark directed at the singer, Uzodimma advised Davido to begin preparing for life after the election by getting ready to employ his uncle should he fail to secure another term in office.
“Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office, as the people of Osun appear ready to cast their votes massively in favour of the APC candidate.
“Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band because, judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026 governorship election,” the statement added.
