- to take off in Akure with 3 faculties, 12 degree programmes
A new private Millennium Crest University, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State, will soon take off at its Aaye, Oda Road, Akure campus in the state capital.
In the approval letter issued by the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, to the University’s promoters, the government said that the institution had fulfilled all the requirements of the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, Cap E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Ribadu, presented the operational licence to the members of the University’s Board of Trustees at the NUC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, July 22, 2026,
According to the letter, “Having satisfied the requirements contained in the Education (National Minimum Standards and Establishment of Institutions) Act, Cap E3, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, for the establishment of a private university in Nigeria, I write to convey the approval of the Federal Executive Council for the issuance of a provisional licence for the establishment of Millennium Crest University, Ikare-Akoko, Ondo State.”
Ribadu also disclosed that the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), had been appointed as the University’s mentoring institution to provide guidance, advice, support and ensure quality assurance during its formative years.
He added that the licence authorises the institution to commence academic activities in line with the approval granted by the Federal Executive Council.
The NUC Executive Secretary explained that the university would be developed in phases and would commence academic activities with three faculties, 11 departments and 12 undergraduate programmes.
The approved faculties are the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, and the Faculty of Science and Computing.
The departments include Computer Science, Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Dental Therapy, Radiography, Community Health Science, Accounting, English Language and Literature, Economics, Social Work, and International Relations.
Ribadu further stated that admission into the university must be conducted through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board.
He expressed confidence that the institution would contribute significantly to expanding access to quality University education, producing skilled professionals and supporting Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
Responding on behalf of the University, the Chairman Board of Trustees, Prof. Joseph Olorunda, expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Executive Council, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, and the NUC Executive Secretary for carrying out their responsibilities with professionalism, transparency and dedication throughout the approval process.
He described the approval as the fulfilment of a long time vision and pledged that the institution would uphold the highest standards of academic excellence, ethical leadership and innovation.
According to him, the issuance of the provisional licence marked the culmination of a journey that began more than a decade ago.
He assured the NUC and the Federal Government that Millennium Crest University would operate in strict compliance with regulatory standards while providing a conducive learning environment, promoting cutting-edge research and producing globally competitive graduates.
Other members of the university’s delegation included Dr. Ayodele Mesuleya, Dr. Ayoola Bello, Dr. Obina Awiaka, Messrs Ayo Adinlewa and other promoters of the institution.
With the granting of the license by the Federal Government, Millennium Crest University is now set to admit its pioneer students. The institution is expected to strengthen higher education in Ondo State and Nigeria as a whole by expanding access to University education, particularly in the domains of health sciences, management, social sciences and computing, while contributing to national manpower development.
