New VC, AAUA, Prof Tomola Marshal Obamuyi
Prof Tomola Marshal Obamuyi has been appointed by the Ondo State Government as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
His appointment followed the recommendation of the institution’s Governing Council in line with the University’s Act and extant regulations.
Chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi,the Council had recommended Obamuyi for the position after emerging first among 15 candidates interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the institution.
Obamuyi, a distinguished scholar of Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Prof Olugbenga Ige.
The incoming Vice Chancellor has held several academic and administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA, and the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
He was awarded the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa for 2015” by the Africa Education Leadership Awards, Mauritius.
Also, he served as Member of National Universities Commission Programme Accreditation Teams, as well as Chairperson and Subject Expert of the Review Panel for National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.
He had presented conference papers in Finland, United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and United States of America.
Obamuyi will bring to the office decades of academic excellence, administrative experience, and a strong record of research and institutional development.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that Obamuyi’s wealth of experience will consolidate the gains recorded by AAUA and take the university to greater heights in teaching, research, and community service.
The Governor urged the new Vice-Chancellor to uphold the core values of AAUA, while fostering peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff, students, and stakeholders.
He further assured that the State Government remains committed to providing the necessary support for AAUA to maintain its status as one of Nigeria’s leading state universities.
