- says Amotekun’s success in Ondo strengthens case for state police
A former speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Jumoke Akindele has commended the Amotekun Corps in the state over its performance.
She said, “As for the quest to have the requirement of State Police entrenched in our Constitution, suffice to state that methinks that the success of the Amotekun Corps of Ondo State is the strongest case for a State Police in Nigeria.”
In her commendation, she wrote: “There was a burglary incident right inside my country home in the middle of the night into Sunday morning.
“I find it altogether curious that of the seven of us who slept under that roof, none of us even made a stir while the operation was ongoing.
“I am yet to decide between whether to simply consider us all blessed for not waking up into what could have been a deadly situation or to berate myself and everyone else for sleeping off like a log.
“One thing is certain, I know that God Almighty keeps those who dwell in His secret place under His own shadow for which I am truly grateful.
“At the end of the exercise, five expensive handsets were taken, my bottle of perfume was stolen, some windows were damaged even when my house door was left slightly ajar. I am yet to fully understand how they made their entrance into the main house.
“We lodged a report at the Okitipupa Police Station. The DPO was quite enthusiastic and affirmed his interest in solving the case.
“However, early this morning, I got a call from a young cousin of mine whose house was also burgled on the same night with two expensive phones stolen that the galant officers and men of the AMOTEKUN CORPS of Okitipupa Command had apprehended certain persons who were attempting to ship the entire seven phones (and possibly more) to Lagos for sale!
“I have often been regaled with the heroic efforts of the Amotekun Corps to battle and curtail all forms of crimes and insecurity in Ondo State and to state that I am awed by their dexterity, their determination, their bravery and commitment to duty is an understatement.
“I salute the Corps Commandant, Mr ADETUNJI ADELEYE, whose name I frankly did not know until today but whose effective and productive style of leadership is evident, the Assistant Corps Commandant, Area 3, Okitipupa, ACA OGUNDANA ADEDAYO who led his men to maintain law and order all through given that burglaries have become rampant in the town and I use one ROTIMI AKINTADE as a point of respect to the men of the Corps who have shown their readiness to go through any storm to quell all criminal tendencies within the town.
“Investigations are ongoing with most of the perpetrators in the Amotekun custody.
“I would not want to dwell on how they were caught and how the investigations will proceed but I sincerely commend these valiant officers and men to the Ondo State Government for recognitions, awards and encomiums.
“As for the quest to have the requirement of State Police entrenched in our Constitution, suffice to state that methinks that the success of the Amotekun Corps of Ondo State is the strongest case for a State Police in Nigeria.
“Ladies and Gentlemen if you know of any heroic deeds of the AMOTEKUN CORPS OF ONDO STATE, perhaps this is the time to state it, praise and appreciate them for it.
“They truly deserve it.”
