Reprieve As Prices Of Cooking Gas Reduce

Prices of refill of different kilograms of cooking gas technically called Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has started falling gradually in many areas of Lagos.

Investigation showed that a refill of 1kg cost N1,900; 6kg, N11,400 and 12.5kg, N23,750.

But as May 30, 2026 the price for a refill of 12.5kg cylinder had risen to N25,000 in some parts of Lagos as against N16,200 in early May and N13,500 in March.

The price for a refill of 6kg increased to N12,000 as against N8,100 in early May and N6,360 in March while that for a refill of 1kg has climbed to N2,000 when compared to N1,350 in early May and N1,060 in March.

The latest Midstream and Downstream Petroleum statis- tics released by the NMDPRA stated, however, that LPG had a decline as its supply reduced from 4.5 kilotonnes per day in April to 4.1 kilotonnes per day in May.

It further stated that domes- tic gas supply decreased from 5.142 billion standard cubic feet per day in April to 4.984 billion standard cubic feet per day in May, which is a decline of 3.1 per cent.

Data from the Energy Bulletin of Industry Competence Centre of The Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) showed that the gantry price of Dangote Price for LGP as of Friday, June 19, 2026 was N925,000/MT.

Recall that the Federal Government, through the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Dr Ekperikpe Ekpo, had reassured Nigerians that it remained fully committed to ensuring adequate, reliable and affordable gas supply for households, industries and power generation across the country.
