Osun State Government has formally requested the intervention of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Zone XI, to provide security for local government chairmen elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and council workers to facilitate their resumption at council secretariats across the state.
The request was contained in a letter dated June 18, 2026, written by Musibau Adetunbi (SAN) & Co. on behalf of the Osun State Government and the state’s local government councils. The letter, signed by Oluwabusola Oluwaniyi, followed the June 15 judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo.
Justice Adefunmilola Demi-Ajayi had dismissed a suit filed by the sacked All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen seeking tenure elongation and other reliefs aimed at retaining control of council secretariats.
According to the state government, the APC chairmen had prayed the court to allow them remain in office, nullify the February 22, 2025 local government election, invalidate the oath of office administered on the elected PDP officials, restrain their removal from the secretariats and compel the police to continue providing security for them.
However, the government noted that all the reliefs sought by the former chairmen were rejected and their originating summons dismissed in its entirety.
The letter further stated that there is no subsisting court order staying the judgment or restraining its implementation.
It stressed that the mere filing of an appeal or an application for stay of execution does not amount to a court order capable of preventing the enforcement of the judgment.
“Against the background of the foregoing, we hereby implore you to act accordingly by removing the illegal occupiers and ensuring safe resumption of duties of the duly elected officials,” the letter read.
The move is the latest development in the lingering local government leadership crisis in Osun State, which has generated legal and political controversies over the control of the 30 local government councils and the area offices.

The controversy which has been on for over a year now has created political tension in the state claiming lives as PDP now Accord Party stays away from secretariat to avoid clash with APC yes and chairmen.
The federal Court in Osogbo had rejected tenure elongation prayed by APC chairmen and councilors declaring that their tenure had lapsed.
