The Principal of Technical College, Owo, Ondo State, Mr. Thompson Ayodele, has commended the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Olayide Owolabi Adelami, for his sustained contributions to student development and the growth of the institution.

A statement by the Deputy Governor’s spokesman , John Akinduro, said Mr Ayodele gave the commendation on Thursday while receiving his boss during a visit to the school to interact with students and staff members.

According to the principal, Dr. Adelami’s scholarship intervention has remained a lifeline for the institution, as over 100 students, representing nearly 50 percent of the school’s population currently benefit from the initiative.

He noted that the support has significantly helped to curb the rising number of out-of-school children caused by prevailing economic challenges.

“We want to thank you, Mr. Deputy Governor, for your intervention in the school in several areas, especially for sponsoring almost half of the students in the institution.

“The enrollment rate had dropped significantly over the years due to the economic situation, but your intervention has changed the narrative.

“It gladdens my heart to present to you over one hundred students who are direct beneficiaries of this scholarship initiative, which covers not only tuition fees but also upkeep allowances. You have indeed contributed immensely to reducing the number of out-of-school children,” Ayodele eulogized the deputy governor.

Speaking during the visit, the deputy governor described it as a privilege to support the efforts of both the Federal Government and the Ondo state government in promoting Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

He encouraged students not to see vocational education as inferior to conventional academic pathways, stressing that the evolving global job market increasingly demands highly skilled technical professionals capable of delivering modern solutions.

The deputy governor also reaffirmed his commitment to continuously support the institution and initiatives aimed at empowering young people through technical education.

He called on major stakeholders to step up advocacy campaigns to compliment the efforts of the state government to get more young people to acquire vocational and technical skills.
