Ondo State will soon become Nigeria’s Capital of Pragmatic Justice, according to the state’s Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Dr Olukayode Ajulo. has declared that

He declared this on his arrival in The Hague, Netherlands for the International City of Peace and Justice for the Justice Matters Conference 2026.

The commissioner submitted:

‘Excited to share this transformative journey. From the vibrant shores of Nigeria to the historic streets of London and the elegant cities of France, I’ve now arrived in The Hague, the International City of Peace and Justice for the Justice Matters Conference 2026.

This is a powerful convening on people-centred justice, innovation in law, and the urgent work of building systems that deliver real access, fairness and lasting stability for citizens.

With its iconic Peace Palace, home to the International Court of Justice and other key global institutions, The Hague stands as a beacon of international rule of law and peaceful dispute resolution. Being here reinforces the conviction that justice is foundational to peace and progress.

As I participate, I’m reflecting deeply on the need for The Capitol in Nigeria, advancing our bold vision and initiative to position Ondo State as Nigeria’s Capital of Pragmatic Justice. It is possible.

This vision is anchored in a clear, urgent truth: justice is the bedrock of peace, prosperity, and sustainable development.

It will be led under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, and driven through the Ministry of Justice led by my humble self, informed by a deep diagnosis of systemic challenges; delays in case resolution, limited access for the vulnerable, outdated infrastructure, and the gap between law on paper and justice in practice.

Rooted in the rich legal heritage of the Sunshine State and inspired by global people-centred justice models (including those reflected here in The Hague), The Capitol will bring together institutional innovation, policy reforms, human-centred design, technology, and strategic partnerships to create faster, fairer, and more trusted justice delivery.

Our founding philosophy is simple and non-negotiable: justice delayed is justice denied, and justice that is inaccessible or unaffordable is no justice at all.

We have the potential, the people, and the visionary leadership to become a living laboratory for transformative justice in Nigeria and Africa. I’m also excited for the opportunity to learn, connect with global experts, and return with practical insights that will help accelerate this vision.

The future of justice in Nigeria is being shaped today, and we are ready to lead.”
