- says obas belong to all, urges peace, unity among politicians
The Arole Oduduwa and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi has distanced the traditional institution from partisan politics, saying royal fathers belong to all citizens irrespective of political leanings, or any other ephemeral differences.
According to him, royal fathers work in the interest of all in the society, for peace, and unity to reign.
He spoke in his Palace while hosting the All Progressives Congress candidate in the coming governorship election in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, who had paid him a courtesy visit.
While reiterating the neutrality of traditional rulers in partisan politics, the monarch emphasised the need for unity among political actors and urged reconciliation among party members.
“An Oba belongs to all and must promote peace and unity,” the Ooni stated, advising political stakeholders to avoid division.
He commended Oyebamiji for demonstrating humility and respect for traditional institutions, describing such qualities as essential for leadership.
As usual, the Ooni offered prayers and ancestral blessings for Oyebamiji ahead of the 2026 election, praying that peace will prevail in the state before, vduring and after the election.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, was accompanied by his running mate, Kayode Adereti, the Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and other party leaders, supporters, and loyalists during the courtesy visit.
Speaking during the engagement, he commended the Ooni for his fatherly role in promoting Yoruba unity and preserving cultural heritage.
He disclosed that his visit was based on the advice of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek royal blessings before commencing his campaign.
Oyebamiji highlighted the historical significance of Ile-Ife as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation, noting that past leaders, including the departed sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, sought similar blessings before achieving political success.
He assured the monarch and the people of Ife of his commitment to good governance, pledging to prioritise development across Osun State if elected.
