Former CBN Deputy Governor, Dr Tunde Lemo

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and 2027 governorship aspirant in Ogun State under the All Progressives Congress, Dr Tunde Lemo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for providing the necessary support to states to advance economic growth and prosperity across the country.

Lemo also praised Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for ensuring the successful completion of the Gateway International Airport in Ilisan Remo, as well as the launch of the state airline with two newly acquired aircraft.

The former CBN deputy governor described the cargo airport as a game-changer capable of redefining the state’s economy by boosting its Gross Domestic Product and positively impacting its Internally Generated Revenue.

Lemo, who mobilised his supporters across the state to give Tinubu a rousing welcome during the inauguration of the cargo airport on Saturday, said the President deserves continued support beyond 2027 in order to consolidate ongoing reforms.

He commended Tinubu for supporting the realisation of the airport project, describing it as a transformative economic asset for Ogun State and Nigeria.

“This project represents progress, opportunity, and a new economic pathway for our people. It will create jobs, boost commerce, and position Ogun as a strategic hub for investment,” Lemo said.

He further praised Abiodun for what he described as visionary leadership, while also acknowledging previous administrations for laying the groundwork that made the project possible.

“This is a remarkable achievement, not only because we now have an airport that will facilitate passenger transportation, but also because it will boost export businesses, which are highly needed to strengthen our economy and increase foreign earnings.

“The cargo airport will be used to export agricultural products, and that is a major advantage because it will help boost the GDP. With the success of this project, Ogun may rank among the top three states in terms of Internally Generated Revenue within the next five years,” he stated.

“Governor Dapo Abiodun deserves commendation for his commitment to legacy infrastructure. We must also recognise the contributions of past leaders whose foundations have made these strides achievable,” he added.

Reaffirming his support for the President, Lemo described Tinubu’s ongoing reforms as bold and necessary, expressing confidence that they would deliver long-term economic transformation for the country.

“Mr President’s reform agenda requires courage and consistency. I remain fully supportive of efforts aimed at repositioning Nigeria for sustainable growth and prosperity,” he said.

Lemo also appreciated his supporters and the people of Ogun State for their orderly conduct and cooperation during the President’s visit.

“I sincerely thank our supporters and the good people of Ogun State for their peaceful and respectful conduct. Your cooperation reflects the true character of our state,” he added.
