lambasts APC for politicizing natural disaster
By John Dike, Osogbo
Accord Party in Osun State has expressed sympathy with residents affected by the devastating rainstorm that recently swept through Osogbo, leaving injuries, loss of lives, and widespread destruction of property in its wake.
It expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing the rainstorm as devastating and deeply unfortunate.
The party extended condolences to families who lost loved ones and sympathized with those whose properties were destroyed.
In a statement signed by its State Chairman, Pastor Babalola Akande, the party lamented the severity of the rainfall, describing it as unusual given the historical weather patterns in the region.
It particularly commiserated with the family of a young man who lost his life, noting that such a loss under sudden circumstances is especially painful.
The Accord Party also wished injured victims a speedy recovery and expressed confidence that relevant authorities would provide timely support and relief materials.
It urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency responders working to manage the situation.
However, the party criticized the APC for what it described as an attempt to politicize a natural disaster.
According to Akande, such actions reflect insensitivity and a focus on political advantage rather than the wellbeing of citizens.
He noted that natural disasters occur globally and should not be exploited for political purposes.
The party, however, commended the swift response of the Osun State Government under Governor Adeleke, highlighting the immediate deployment of a delegation led by the Deputy Governor to assess the damage.
It described the move as a demonstration of responsive and empathetic leadership during a period of crisis.
