Raise Concerns Over Infrastructure

Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commiserated with victims of the rainstorm that recently ravaged Osogbo, the state capital, leaving several people injured, properties destroyed, and casualties reported.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party expressed sympathy with affected residents and their families, describing the incident as tragic and unfortunate.
While acknowledging that the rainstorm was a natural disaster, the APC alleged that the scale of destruction was worsened by what it described as substandard projects executed under the administration of Ademola Adeleke.
The party claimed that some recently constructed roads in Osogbo were damaged by the rainfall, while several solar streetlights reportedly collapsed during the storm, raising concerns about the quality of infrastructure in the state capital.
According to the statement, the situation was further compounded by the proliferation of large political billboards across major parts of Osogbo, some of which were said to have contributed to the destruction recorded during the storm.
The APC also questioned the effectiveness of the state signage regulatory agency, urging it to intensify oversight and ensure strict compliance with safety standards in billboard installation and management.
The opposition party called for a comprehensive review of safety measures, particularly during extreme weather conditions, to prevent a recurrence of such incidents, while reiterating its solidarity with affected residents.
In a related development, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Isiaka Adegboyega Oyetola, also expressed deep sympathy with the people of Osun State, particularly residents of Osogboland, over the impact of the rainstorm.
Oyetola extended prayers for the safety of lives and protection of property, noting that while rainstorms are natural occurrences beyond human control, their effects can be severe.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and adopt proactive safety measures during adverse weather conditions, emphasizing the importance of preparedness in minimizing risks.
The Minister further encouraged community leaders and relevant agencies to intensify public awareness on safety measures during periods of heavy rainfall to prevent future occurrences.
He also called for unity and mutual support among residents, stressing that collective responsibility and compassion are essential in overcoming challenges posed by natural disasters.
Oyetola reassured the people of the state of his continued concern and solidarity, urging those affected not to lose hope as efforts toward recovery and safety continue.
