The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, has called for enhanced collaboration with the Nigeria Police Trust Fund to drive ongoing reforms and improve operational efficiency within the Nigeria Police Force.

He made the call on Thursday while receiving the Executive Secretary of the Fund, Mohammed Sheidu, and members of its Board of Directors during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The meeting provided a platform for strategic discussions aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the police and the Trust Fund, with a focus on reform initiatives and capacity building.

Speaking during the visit, Sheidu reaffirmed the Fund’s commitment to supporting the police through sustained, needs-based interventions in personnel welfare, training, and operational development.

He highlighted the Fund’s achievements, including the execution of over 100 training programmes benefiting more than 13,000 officers, as well as the delivery of over 170 infrastructure projects across the country.

He added that the NPTF remains committed to expanding initiatives in housing, healthcare, and smart policing infrastructure, while aligning its interventions with the strategic priorities of the Nigeria Police Force.

In his response, the IGP stressed that a stronger and more coordinated partnership with the Fund is crucial to achieving meaningful police reforms.

He described personnel welfare as a top priority, noting that improved housing, accessible healthcare, and prompt payment of insurance and welfare benefits are key to boosting morale and discipline within the Force.

Disu also urged the Fund to prioritise junior officers in its welfare programmes, emphasising that personnel at the lower ranks bear the greatest operational responsibilities and require consistent institutional support.

He reiterated his commitment to building a more responsive, technology-driven, and citizen-focused police force through sustained collaboration with critical partners.
