Court Remands Six Over Alleged Assault, Robbery in Ilesa

Six men have been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre by Magistrate A. Ayeni of Magistrate Court 2, Ilesa, Osun State, over alleged offences including conspiracy, assault, breach of peace, threat to life, and robbery.

The accused, aged between 18, and 32, are facing charges in a case filed against them and others by the Commissioner of Police.

Police Prosecution Officer, S.P. Alhaji Keji Maru, told the court that the suspects allegedly conspired on March 19 at around 4:10 p.m. at Igbo-Olomo Area, Iloko-Ijesa, within the Ilesa Magisterial District, to commit felony, specifically assault occasioning harm, an offence punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants allegedly attacked Chief Alake Emmanuel, beating him with sticks, tearing his clothes, and causing injuries that required hospitalization.

They were further accused of creating a breach of peace by using sticks and cutlasses to attack the victim while forcibly seizing his Android phone.

The prosecution also alleged that the suspects threatened to kill Chief Alake Emmanuel and unlawfully took the sum of ₦3,855,000, offences punishable under Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code.

Magistrate Ayeni subsequently ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre pending further hearing of the case.
