The power of sin

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*Sin is the power that the devil gained over man.*

*Today’s edition of the daily Reflection is in response to someone’s comment on the connection between yesterday’s Reflections which was titled “Trouble From the Past”, and the consequences of David’s actions on his children.*

*1) Know that when David fell into adultery, he broke the edge of God around himself and opened up his life for satanic attacks as seen by the troubles he later faced.*

*When David went further to shed the innocent blood of Uriah and terminate his life, he drew the anger of God to make a very drastic pronouncement on him which affected the generations after him.*

*Listen to the verdict of God on David :*

*2 Samuel 12: [7] And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;*
*[8]And I gave thee thy master’s house, and thy master’s wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.*
*[9]Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.*
*[10] _Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife_.*
*[11] _Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun_.*
*[12] _For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun_.*

*Just imagine the several things God did for David, and why God felt disappointed that he could do what he did.*

*2) Second example for our consideration : imagine the position and status of Adam and Eve in the creative plan of God – having dominion over everything God created, yet one singular sin was enough to break the covenant of God over their lives and send them packing from the garden of Aden:*

*Genesis 3: [22] And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:*
*[23]Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.*
*[24]So he drove out the man;*

*3) The third example : consider the esteemed position of King Saul, and how the sin of disobedience terminated his reign :*

*1 Samuel 15: [22] And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.*
*[23]For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.*

*On sin, the word of God clearly says :*

*Isaiah 59: [1] Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:*
*[2]But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.*

*Know this for a truth : sin is an insulator – there is no glory that sin cannot end.*

*There is no relationship with God that sin cannot reverse. This has been demonstrated over and over again. No wonder the Word of God admonished us thus :*

*Romans 6: [1] What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?*
*[2]God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?*
