Presidency Debunks Viral Alleged Poison Plot Against Tinubu

News

The Presidency has dismissed as false a viral video of an alleged plot to poison President Bola Tinubu.

It also debunked the claim that a chef working at the Presidential Villa was arrested over a supposed plot to poison the President

As claimed by the video, which circulated widely on social media on Sunday, security operatives detained a member of the Villa’s kitchen staff following intelligence reports of suspicious activities related to food preparation within restricted areas.

But reacting to the allegation, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed the report.

In a statement shared on his X handle, Onanuga described the claim as entirely fabricated.

He wrote: “No Aso Rock kitchen staff arrested. No Aso Rock kitchen staff attempted to poison President Tinubu,”, urging Nigerians to disregard the viral content.

The latest claim follows previous instances where the Presidency has had to counter misinformation circulating online.

In October 2025, the Defence Headquarters announced it had foiled a coup plot against the Tinubu administration, leading to the arrest and court-martial of several military officers.

Similarly, in January 2026, the Presidency refuted claims that a photograph of President Tinubu with Paul Kagame in Paris was artificially generated. The clarification came after social media users questioned the image due to a visible “Grok” watermark on an enhanced version of the photo.

The Presidency reiterated its call for the public to verify information from credible sources and avoid spreading unsubstantiated claims capable of causing unnecessary panic.
