The Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi, has reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to equipping students with practical skills that will enable them become employers of labour rather than job seekers.

Represented by his deputy, Gboyega Oluwaseun Oyeleke, the rector made this known during a two-day skills acquisition workshop at the weekend

The workshop focused on food processing, hospitality, and GSM phone maintenance and repair.a and was facilitated by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), highlighted the need for students to acquire vocational competencies alongside their academic programmes to enhance self-reliance and professional versatility.

Speaking at the event, the institution’s Director of Skills Acquisition, Engr. Bunmi Oluseyi Ola, disclosed that the directorate has developed more than 22 vocational programmes aimed at promoting entrepreneurship among graduates.

He explained that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) requires graduating students in Nigerian polytechnics to possess at least one vocational trade to improve employability and encourage enterprise development.

According to the directorate, available training areas include catering services, phone and computer repairs, plumbing, videography and photography, event planning, tie-and-dye, fashion design, poultry and livestock farming, detergent and confectionery production, mechatronics, automobile servicing, ceramics,
