New Chancellor, Lagos State University, Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo

Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has appointed the Alara of Ilara, Oba Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, as the sixth Chancellor of the institution.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mr Emmanuel Fanu.

Ogunsanwo succeeds Gbolahan Elias, who served as the fifth Chancellor of the university.

According to the statement, the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor of the university.

The statement read, “The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has appointed His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University.

“This appointment follows the completion of the tenure of Prof Gbolahan Elias (SAN), who served meritoriously as the fifth Chancellor of the University.

“The new Chancellor’s appointment is for a single term of five years, effective from February 13, 2026, and is renewable once.”

The LASU management and council congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on his appointment and expressed optimism that his leadership would advance the university’s vision and mission.

This is as the statement conveyed the management’s appreciation of Elias for his meritorious service during his tenure as Chancellor.
