Amotekun Corps in Osun State has dismissed as false and misleading allegations circulating on social media alleging that its operatives recklessly pursued and knocked down a motorcyclist and his passenger into a ditch in Osogbo.
The Corps clarified that the video currently being circulated online is not a recent incident, explaining that it is footage from an accident that occurred on December 19 at the Lameco area of Osogbo, which was fully addressed and resolved at the time.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Mr. Yusuf Idowu Abass, the allegations were described as untrue and misleading, urging members of the public to disregard them.
According to the statement, the incident was not the result of reckless driving or deliberate pursuit by Amotekun operatives. Investigations revealed that the motorcyclist attempted to wrongly overtake an Amotekun operational vehicle from the right side while the vehicle was maintaining its lane, leading to a collision.
The statement added that operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps acted responsibly by immediately conveying the injured motorcyclist and passenger to a hospital where they received medical attention.
The Corps also paid for their medical expenses, and the matter was amicably resolved.
The renewed circulation of the video was therefore described as unwarranted, misleading, and mischievous, with the intent to misinform the public and undermine the credibility of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
The Corps reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of lives and property across Osun State, while advising the public to always verify information from credible and official sources.
