The Yoruba Youth Council, YYC, has congratulated President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi, on his conferment on Sunday with the honorary chieftaincy title of Okanlomo of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1.

Also, it congratulated a former Zamfara State Governor and current Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, on his conferment with the Obaloyin of Yorubaland chieftaincy title by the royal father at the same occasion.

However, the YYC, in a statement on Tuesday by its President, Comrade Eric Oluwole, disowned a statement by one Dr Adebayo Ogunleye on behalf of the Council opposing the conferment of the Obaloyin of Yorubaland title on Abubakar by the royal father.

According to the statement: “We at the YYC use this medium to congratulate our President’s son, Mr. Seyi Tinubu, on his conferment with the honorary chieftaincy title of the Okanlomo of Yorubaland by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade 1.

“We also congratulate former Zamfara State Governor and now Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar on his conferment with the honorary chieftaincy title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland by the royal father at the same occasion.”

Oluwole advised the public to be wary of, and discountenance, any statement issued by anyone else parading himself as the YYC president.

According to him: “The attention of the authentic Yoruba Youth Council, YYC, which is an umbrella body of Yoruba youths in our Country campaigning for the advancement of the collective interests of the Yoruba people, and good governance in the interest of all the composite groups of our dear Country Nigeria, has been drawn to a statement by one Dr Adebayo Ogunleye, who claimed to be YYC president,

“That statement by the purported YYC president opposed the conferment of the Obaloyin of Yorubaland title on former Zamfara State Governor and current Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I,

“As the president of the authentic YYC, on behalf of the YYC, a body recognised by eminent Yoruba leaders, sons and daughters, and associations as well as the generality of Nigerians at home and abroad, as the authentic umbrella body of Yoruba youths across Nigeria, campaigning for the interest of the entire Yoruba people in the Nigerian federation, and the advancement of our dear Country, I, Comrade Eric Oluwole hereby dissociate YYC from that statement.

“For clarity’s sake, this authentic YYC being led by Comrade Eric Oluwole as President, Is affiliated with the Yoruba Afenifere Youth Organisation of Nigeria, YAYON.

“Equally, I declare that at no time did we contemplate, or take any decision leading to that statement issued on behalf of a purported YYC..

“As a principle in respect of the entire royal institution in Yorubaland, the authentic YYC does not dabble into issues or matters that lie strictly in the personal wisdom, free will and decisions of any of our highly esteemed and respected royal fathers across Yorubaland without discrimination, bias or malice against any of them. The issue at stake here is one of such matters.

“Categorically again, I hereby declare that that statement was not from the authentic YYC, which I Comrade Eric Oluwole lead as President.

“Also, I advise our highly esteemed reading public to be wary of any statement on behalf of the YYC that does not emanate from the authentic YYC being led by Comrade Eric Oluwole.”
