In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s drive to modernize Nigeria’s road network and enhance safety on all highways, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has issued a firm directive to all construction companies operating across Nigerian roads.
A statement by Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal, Corps Public Education Officer, the directive mandates that all construction sites—active or inactive—must have adequate, visible, and continuously updated road signage to safeguard motorists and other road users.
The Corps Marshal stressed that this order is designed to prevent accidents and ensure public safety around construction zones, noting with concern that some firms have repeatedly failed to provide proper warning, information, and diversion signs, putting lives at risk.
To guarantee compliance, all Commanding Officers across FRSC formations have been instructed to commence immediate and strict enforcement of the directive nationwide.
“This directive is final and enforceable. FRSC field commands will intensify supervision, and any contractor found violating approved safety standards will face decisive regulatory action,” the Corps Marshal stated.
He further reiterated the FRSC’s commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that the Federal Government’s investment in road infrastructure translates into safer and more secure journeys for all road users.
