China has expressed her strong support for Nigeria and cautioned against any form of foreign interference, following recent U.S. threats of possible military action.
In a statement published on the website of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, spokesperson Mao Ning reaffirmed Beijing’s backing for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, praising Nigeria’s efforts to pursue a development path suited to its own national realities.
“As Nigeria’s strategic partner, China firmly opposes any attempt by foreign powers to exploit issues of religion or human rights as a pretext to interfere in another country’s internal affairs, or to impose sanctions and military threats,” Mao said during a press briefing on Tuesday in Beijing.
Her remarks came in response to comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently warned that Washington might consider deploying military forces to Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians.
China’s statement underscores its long-standing policy of non-interference and its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s sovereignty and stability.
