The Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), on Sunday expressed rude shock and deep sorrow over the passage of ace broadcaster, Adenike Thompson.
The deceased, a former Director, News and Current Affairs at the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC) died on Saturday afternoon at a private hospital in Akure during a brief illness.
This was contained in a statement by the NUJ State General Secretary, Leke Adegbite.
It said that Ondo state people will not forget in a hurry the deceased’s pleasant, professional and captivating style of casting news on OSRC TV and Radio stations in the last three decades.
According to the statement:
“Members and leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council receive news of the untimely death of an Ace and Quintessential Broadcaster and Senior member of the Pen Profession, ADENIKE THOMPSON with rude shock, deepest sorrow and immense sadness.
Thompson, a Director, News and Current Affairs at the Ondo State Radiovision Corporation (OSRC) before her redeployment to the State Ministry of Information, died on Saturday afternoon at a private hospital during a brief illness.
Our Union and indeed the general public in Ondo state will not forget in a hurry her pleasant, professional and captivating style of casting news on OSRC TV and Radio stations
Aunty Nike, as fondly called by her junior and senior colleagues, was a patriot, cerebral journalist whose life of service to humanity and courageous will continue to be widely acknowledged especially among media professionals.
Ondo NUJ is enthralled and regaled with the many years of unequalled, unparalleled and sacrifices of ADENIKE THOMPSON to the training of young broadcast journalists to a stardom as well as working for the progress and growth of our Union and NAWOJ at OSRC chapel and at the state Council levels.
We pray Lord grant her family, OSRC chapel and journalism fraternity the fortitude to bear the irreparable and shocking loss of our dear Aunty Nike who died at her late fifties.
Her burial arrangements will be announced after a meeting with her family.”
