‘I remain in PDP’ – Governor
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has debunked his rumoured planned defection from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The rumour thickened with his visit on Monday to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, accompanied by his billionaire industrialist elder brother, Deji Adeleke, and world-renowned, serial award winning music megastar, Davido.
Also, Adeleke’s reaffirmation of his loyalty to the PDP comes amid rising political tensions and realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
But emphatically, the Governor declared on Thursday on Osogbo, the state capital, that he is not defecting from Nigeria’s foremost opposition party to any other political party, contrary to recent media speculations.
He made the clarification in a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, puncturing the rumours of his imminent defection to President Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the statement, “The media speculation about likely or imminent defection is fake news.
“Governor Adeleke remains a committed member and leader of the PDP in Osun State”.
Rasheed explained that the recent visit by the Adeleke family to President Tinubu was simply a routine courtesy call, which should not be misinterpreted.
His words, “Any reading of a defection agenda into the visit is mere fake news”.
President Tinubu had on Monday hosted Adeleke, his brother Deji, and Afrobeats star cousin Davido, at his Lagos residence.
Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun posted the visit’s pictures on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
According to him, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu receives in Audience, H.E Ademola Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State and Chief Adedeji Adeleke and his son and Afro beat star #davido at his residence in Lagos.”
