The local security network, Amotekun, has arrested 14 suspects of various crimes including two alleged serial rapists, in Osun State.
Commander of the State Amotekun Corps, Dr. Isaac Omoyele, confirmed the arrests while parading the suspects in Osogbo the state capital,
He said their offences ranged from armed robbery, to theft, and drug possession.
It was learned that the rape suspects, aged 28, and 25, were arrested for separate incidents of attempted sexual assault.
Omoyele said that on Monday, June 2, at about 6:30 o ‘clock, the first rape suspect was arrested at Ode Omu, after allegedly luring an eight-year-old girl, a primary three pupil, into his residence under the pretense of buying pepper from her.
He said the victim managed to escape and raised an alarm, prompting nearby Amotekun operatives to intervene and arrest the suspect.
According to the Amotekun boss, in another case, on May 29, 2025, the second rape suspect was arrested for attempting to rape a 17-year-old girl, a 200-level student of the Federal University of Health Technology, Ila-Orangun.
The suspect had also lured his victim under the guise of buying pepper.
Omoyele said the girl managed to escape and reported the incident to her parents, who lodged a formal complaint at the Amotekun Ayedaade Command, which led to the suspect’s arrest.
In a separate incident, on May 29, 2025, at about 20:40 o ‘clock, the Amotekun Corps received a distress call from Itapa, in Atakumosa East, about unidentified armed men in military camouflage terrorising the community.
The suspects were reportedly armed with sophisticated weapons and had already attacked residents.
Swift intervention by Amotekun operatives led to the arrest of five suspects, aged between 35, and 54.
Some gang members are said to still be at large.
Recovered from the arrested suspects were a pump-action rifle and criminal charms. Victims have also come forward to identify the suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
Also, the commander added that six other suspects were arrested for possessing cannabis (Indian hemp) following a tip-off from a Good Samaritan about drug distribution activities at a vulnerable location in Ejigbo.
He said the Amotekun Narcotics Squad acted swiftly and arrested the suspects aged between 20, and 29.
The suspects were allegedly caught with quantities of cannabis sativa and are assisting with ongoing investigations, he said.
Again, following a complaint, another suspect aged 35, was arrested in connection with the alleged theft of building materials, specifically Molly blocks worth N450,000 from a construction site in the GRA area of Osogbo.
The suspect, who was traced to his hideout, was said to have confessed during interrogation. Further investigations are ongoing to recover additional stolen items.
Omoyele assured that all the suspects will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
