25 jostle for AAUA Vice Chancellor’s seat

At least, 25 professors are eyeing the seat of the Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko. The incumbent, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, would bow out on January 3, 2020 having spent the mandatory five years in office. Out of the applicants, seven are currently in the service of the institution.

Also, 11 persons are vying for the office of the Registrar of the institution which became vacant four months ago. Sources said that application for the position of the Vice Chancellor closed at 4.00pm on Friday August 9.

Among those contesting for the office are the current Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin, Prof E. O. Ige; immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Prof (Mrs) Yemisi Adebowale from the Faculty of Arts; Prof V. O. Olumekun from the Faculty of Sciences; Prof C. L. Daramola, Dean, Post Graduate Studies; Prof Afolabi Ayenigbara from the School of Management and Social Sciences; and Prof Bayo Oludoro from the Faculty of Law.

Also in the race is Prof. TemilOluwa Ologunorisa, a professor of Climatology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure. He is a graduate of Harvard University and has served as a Deputy Vice Chancellor, Osun State University, Osogbo. Prof Kayode Akeredolu of the Department of Physical Education, Lagos State University, LASU, is also showing interest. Akeredolu is currently on sabbatical leave at Akungba. Information gathered showed that one Prof Adetula from the United States of America, USA is also showing interest.

Among conditions set  by the institution’s Governing Council are that the candidate must have five years post profesoral qualification, shown proven ability and capacity to attract grants and funding for the university and must have occupied sensitive academic and administrative positions in a university.

Meanwhile, 11 applicants are also jostling for the position of the Registrar of the institution. They include the Acting Registrar,  Mr OpeOluwa Akinfemiwa; Mrs. E Araoyinbo, a Deputy Registrar /Secretary, Post Graduate School; and Mr. Gbenga Arajulu, a Deputy Registrar and Faculty Officer, Faculty of Agriculture.

It was gathered that the university would prefer a Vice Chancellor who will push it further from its present enviable height as it soars upwards. The institution is for the third time the best state university in Nigeria, ninth best university in Nigeria and 3048 best in the world.
